Renovation Begins!

Carpet: ripped it up. Thanks to Rick's hard work. Herself (that's me) did a lot of padding removal and wall washing.

Toilet: flushed it. Scott ripped it out, along with the sink and the vanity. He also ripped along the tub to prep it for removal. Needed to get some items to plug off the pipes. Found some hypo-needles in the wall behind the shower. Other than that and a quick lesson that safety glasses should be worn when whacking away at tile, it went pretty smoothly.

Switchpanels: Janet removed all switchplates and plug plates. Ready for wall scrubbing to prep walls for priming and painting!

Some interesting surprises: The carpet was a rank, disgusting urine-infested rag. Can't believe Rick cut it up and pulled it out without wearing gloves! Ugh! Discovered that there was no hardwood under the carpet in the living room. That's a good thing, I guess, considering how much dog piss was in that carpet. However, the padding was a thick rubber foam, so, for the most part, the underfloor is pretty urine-free. Also, discovered that below the pee-carpet in the den is a floor of vinyl tiles. Some are in bad shape; not sure if we'll need to remove them or if we'll be able to carpet over them.

Wow, that is a cool house. I have to admit it, that I LOVE the pink bathroom. We had one just like it in our last house that was original 1950s pink bathroom that was actually to really nice shape. Its a shame that the tile was in such disrepair. The front room of the house looks simuliar to ours, your house must be ranchstyle? I feel for you on pulling out carpet, that sucks. So does painting an entire house b/c we had to do that to ours when we moved in 6 mo. ago. Good luck!

Yeah, that bathroom is no doubt all the original equipment, including the tile. I think the house was built in the '50s. I could probably live with the pink, but my dad is going to be the only one living there and he is one of those "manly" men.

I think I may salvage as much of the tile and chips to make some mosaic stones for the garden.

Yup. It's a ranch. Here's a picture of the outside. It was a bank foreclosure (repossession).

My husband knew the original owners, who sold it to the recent owner. The recent owner had it about 3 years and was into drugs, etc. So, needless to say, they were a bit negligent in the upkeep!
